... He proposed  [back]

Jerrold is a true romantic and really had a fun time working on my proposal! He worked on it for many months…. it all began with the establishment of www.iloveyoucarolyn.com It was first revealed to me on November 3, 2006. The guessing game had begun! This web page was a jumble of letters all over the page that were positioned upside down and backwards. There was also a large question mark in the center of the page. I checked the page from day to day and every couple of days there was a new letter that was revealed to me…eventually it spelled out C-A-R-O-L-Y-N-S-A-N-D-E-R-S, D-O Y-O-U T-H-I-N-K Y-O-U K-N-O-W W-H-A-T T-H-E [Q-U-E-S-T-I-O-N] I-S? My family, friends and co-workers had a lot of fun trying to help me figure out what Jerrold was trying to say on the page…of course we all knew where this was leading…Jerrold even put a song on the page that I had to figure out, and all he gave me was a couple of notes. It turned out it was Prince's, Diamonds and Pearls! There were "major" updates that occurred every three weeks or so which consisted of a new video displayed in the center of the page. These were taken by Jerrold's cell phone. The first one showed him parking his truck, putting money into a parking meter and then walking…somewhere…I knew that he must have either been in Detroit, Birmingham or Royal Oak…The next videos revealed more of where he was going. You can see the updates by clicking on the link and the dates at the top of the page.

We had planned to go to the Dominican Republic the week surrounding my 30th birthday. It would be the vacation of a lifetime! I thought that this would be where Jerrold would propose. I even picked out the perfect dress for the occasion. I imagined it would take place on the beach on my birthday. It turned out it was even better than I ever could have dreamed of. Two nights prior to our departure Jerrold told me that we had a retirement party to go to for one of his father's partners. He even forwarded me an email invitation from his dad's email address! On Thursday January 18th we got home from work and got ready to go to the retirement party. We were headed down Woodward towards the restaurant that the party was to be held at. I had no idea what Jerrold was about to do. Suddenly he turned turned the car around and pulled into the driveway of the restaurant where we first laid eyes on each other, La Dolce Vita. My heart was pounding. Jerrold said, "there is no party tonight." He walked around to my side of the car and opened the door. Clenched in his hand was a single red rose, and this time inserted inside was a single white rose petal and tied around the stem was a ribbon and a shiny diamond solitaire engagement ring! We were seated at our table and soon after Jerrold got down on one knee and with many tears in his eyes said, "Carolyn will you marry me?" I immediately said YES! WOW! It actually happened! Jerrold asked me to marry me! I was the happiest girl in the world! I was going to get to spend my life with Jerrold Emery! We ordered a bottle of Veuve and celebrated! We called all of our family and closest friends to tell them the good news. Everyone was so happy for us! Now all we had to do was relax and celebrate our engagement in the Dominican Republic…
